Classical Concert Pianist - Maja Mihic

Maja Mihić is a classical concert pianist, chamber musician and a professor of piano. As a soloist, she has been highly praised by the critics for her “intelligent and subtle performances of the French impressionism”. She is also a member of several active ensembles and is always in great demand as a chamber musician and piano accompanist. The critics have described her as “very devoted, delicate and inspiring collaborator”. Her capability to perform a wide range of styles has been defined as a “musical career of rare versatility”.

Maja Mihić has given many solo recitals, performed at various important festivals and has appeared as soloist with St. George Strings and Symphony Orchestra “Stanislav Binički”. She has also performed at several concerts that were live broadcasted by the Serbian national television RTS.

Her recent activities include performances with outstanding Serbian musicians: Nemanja Stanković, cello, Madlen Stokić Vasiljević, violin, Miloš Nikolić, clarinet, Ivana Dakić, oboe, Olivera Radmanović, pianist.

More than 10 years of vivid concert activity as a pianist of trio Pokret

Trio Pokret (violin-clarinet-piano) is an innovative, creative music ensemble, founded in Belgrade, Serbia. The main focus of the trio is the music of the 21st century and the constant search for new sounds, new meanings and ways of interpretation. The performing activities of the trio and collaboration with many composers have brought trio Pokret into the very center of the Serbian contemporary music scene. By constant commissioning of new works, and under the patronage of SOKOJ (Serbian music authors’ organization), trio Pokret has enriched the modern Serbian chamber music literature.

As a pianist of the trio Pokret, Maja Mihić has performed at several important festivals in Serbia, to mention but a few: The International Review of Composers in Belgrade, NIMUS (Niš music festival), Tisin cvet (music festival in Novi Kneževac) etc. International festivals include “Nuovi spazi musicali” in Ascoli-Piceno (Italy), “Luci della Ribalta” in Narni (Italy), “Skopska esen” in Skopje (Macedonia) etc. She participated in performing and recording of more than 50 different works by Serbian contemporary authors, including 40 world premieres. Important concerts of Serbian contemporary music were held in Rome (Italy), Munich (Germany), Vienna (Austria), Prague (Czech Republic), Paris (France) and New York (USA).

Duo with Nemanja Stanković - cellist and pianist of great integrity and creativity

Ms. Mihić’s other important long-term chamber music collaborations include the renowned Serbian cellist Nemanja Stanković. Together, they performed at more than 30 recitals with various repertoire. Important appearances include the recital in Milan (Italy) at the Palazzo Mezzanotte, organized by Societtà del Quartetto, in Merate (Italy) at the Villa Belgiojoso, organized by Fondazione Brivio Sforza for Le Dimore del Quartetto. Numerous appearances in Serbia include the recitals at the festivals “Tisin cvet” in Novi Kneževac, BUNT in Belgrade, Jeunesse Musicale in Kragujevac. Many more recitals were held in Belgrade, Serbia, at the Belgrade Philharmonic Hall, Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts, Kolarac Concert Hall, Belgrade City Hall, Guarnerius, Artget, Nebojša Tower etc.

Education

Born and educated in Serbia, Maja Mihić graduated from the Faculty of Music Art in Belgrade, where she studied with professor Ninoslav Živković. She obtained her DMA degree in piano performance in 2016 with highest distinction, focusing mainly on piano music by Claude Debussy and Maurice Ravel.

She won numerous prizes at national and international competitions for pianists. As a member of a piano duo, she won several first prizes: the 6th International competition for pianists in Ostuni, Italy, the International competition “Petar Konjović” in Belgrade, Serbia, and the “Roma” piano competition in Italy. She was a semifinalist of the TIM competition (Torneo Internationale di Musica). As a member of a chamber ensemble, she won the prize “Concert of the Year”, given by “Muzika klasika” magazine in the year 2012, as well as “Aleksandar Pavlović” prize in 2019 for the most successful promotion of Serbian contemporary music abroad.

Maja Mihić is an associate professor of piano at the Faculty of Music Art in Belgrade, Serbia.
